What will happen to the plant in absence of phloem tissue?

Published on 29-Jun-2022

The key purpose of this tissue is to transport food materials prepared in the leaves to various areas of the plant.

Function of phloem

Seive tube, companion cell, phloem fibre, and phloem parenchyma are the four kinds of cells that make up phloem. All of these cells work together to transport food prepared in leaves to various areas of the body. Any components also store surplus food and supplies in case of a food shortage. As a result, they keep the plant's food supply in check. Where phloem fibres are present, they provide additional strength and protection to the plant organ. Conduction of food will fail in the absence of phloem tissue, and the plant will eventually die.
