The Structure of a Nephron

Published on 04-Sep-2022

Structure of nephron:

The structure of the nephron contains a bowman's capsule, tubules, and a network of capillaries. Filtration is done by the smallest structure called the 'nephron .' It consists of a tubule connected to the collecting duct at one end, whereas a cup-shaped form is at the other. Certain filtrate substances like glucose, amino acids, urea, uric acid, salts, and a lot of water are removed from the body.

Nephrons are located at the cortex, and the tubules dip down to the medulla, then return to the cortex.

The five components of the nephron are:

  • proximal convoluted tubule
  • loop of Henle
  • distal convoluted tubule
  • collecting tubule
  • collecting duct

Nephron was first discovered by Sir William Bowman.
